Continue to read book "The 80/20 manager : the secret to working less and achieving more" by Richard Koch

Management and Leadership is rarely ever glamorous and highly effective.  And if you are, have been, or are ever going to be any of these, I think you will agree.  But WHY is that case? Why is management or leadership filled with long hours, frustrating days and sometimes highly ineffective periods of "I want to poke my eyes out with a sporks" moments? Well aside from the fact that most of our problems tend to walk on two feet, it is also because in society we have long, and wrongfully, concluded that hard long working hours will give us better results.  But intuitively we know this isn't true. We all know those folks that seem to have fortune on their side. They may not be as smart as we are, and certainly they don't work as hard and as long as we do. But we know them, and sometimes we want to poke THEM in their eyes with the spork because they seem to have the Midas Touch, and we do not.  Well, we no longer have to wonder why they have the touch, and we do not. Richard Koch, who is probably the worlds most leading authority in the 80/20 Principle, writes yet another incredibly insightful book to expose the truth.  Not everything matters equally and input does not equal output.  The 80/20 Manager exposes 10 simple methodologies that we can use to also have the Midas Touch. To really be more effective in less time. But WARNING - this books is NOT for those that are looking to extend their working hours, or looking for the latest and greatest "Management Theory". Think of Richard as a sculpting instructor and us as the students.  He places a big block of marble in front of us and says; "Now I want you to imagine what you think this marble could turn into. What do you see inside? What does your imagination and desire think this marble is supposed to be?"  After we give it some thought, we arrive at what we think we see. It could be another Michael Angelo, or another Thinker, or anything original. Then he says; "Good! Now here is a hammer and a chisel, and chip away at the unessential until you reach the beauty of what you see.  For it is daily decrease, not daily increase that will bring out what you want."  I know. I know. The metaphor is kinda lame, but it makes a great point. It is not addition, but subtraction that will get us to do those few things that truly matter and are much more highly effective than the rest.
