From my understanding, one key differentiation between Chinese medicine and Western is its lack of standardization. The prescription of Chinese medicine is highly personalized for each patient. In addition, diagnoses and prescriptions may differ between practitioners.

In contrast to going to a nearby hospital, a common practice for finding a Chinese practitioner in China is through connections, word-of-mouth recommendation. This is because of the variability of the ability of practitioners even if they have the same education.
