LECTURE SUMMARY: The lecture will focus first on the unique features of private equity investing that distinguish it from all other techniques used to finance private companies, and then explain why these characteristics are especially relevant and beneficial to the financing challenges encountered by the vast majority of small and medium size companies in China, as well as other emerging markets countries. The lecture also will highlight the significant differences that distinguish private equity investing in China compared to the West (e.g. leveraged buyouts), and suggest some reasons why both the risks and the opportunities for investors are greater than in more developed countries. Finally, the lecture will briefly analyze the growth and performance of private equity investing in emerging markets countries such as China.
