“Foreign Acquisitions in Australia – The Chinese and Singaporean Experience”
Foreign investment is an important component of national economic development. Most countries, including Australia, regulate
foreign acquisitions and takeovers in order to balance the necessary foreign investment with national security concerns and the
national interest.
Jeff Hall, a Visiting Fellow at the MAFC and principal lecturer for the Mergers & Acquisitions course, will present a talk on “Foreign
Acquisitions in Australia – The Chinese and Singaporean Experience”. This talk will look at the key components of Australia’s
Foreign Acquisitions and Takeovers Act and the Foreign Investment Guidelines that are applied by the Australian Government in
making decisions pursuant to the Act, including special provisions that are applicable to foreign sovereign wealth funds (such as
Temasek Holdings) and foreign companies with significant Government ownership or control (such as SingTel or Chinalco). The
general provisions that apply to all foreign corporations will also be discussed with particular emphasis on decisions involving
acquisitions made or attempted to be made by Chinese and Singaporean companies (such as the acquisition of OZ Minerals by
China Minmetals).
Admission is free of charge, however registration is required. Limited seats are available.

Jeffery Hall教授背景介绍   
Jeffery Hall教授是应用金融硕士项目选修课程Mergers and Acquisitions的主讲老师，具有商业硕士、注册金融分析师、美国会计师协会会员等资质。从1988年起 Jeffery教授一直是Grant Samuel的董事和主要股东。其重要负责提供收购意见；兼并和计划的安排；洽谈各种并购交易；为融资、首次公开发行股票和进行复杂的并购评估作业而提供咨询意见。现在，Jeffery教授也担任Sumner Hall Associates的常务董事，该咨询公司成立于2002年，在悉尼专攻合并和收购的业务。在过去的三年间，参与合作的并购案例有：矿业公司Rio Tinto（力拓）和Felix Resources（费利克斯资源公司），基础设施公司GasNet，媒体集团公司News Corporation和Publishing & Broadcasting Limited，零售企业Coles Myer等。
