Follow Me:8, 8

Decoding DSK
In matters of sex, as of war, Europeans are from Venus. They mock Americans’ puritanism about the sex lives of public figures. For a politician to cheat on his wife in America is a sign of dishonesty. Witness the opprobrium heaped on Arnold Schwarzenegger over the new revelation that he had fathered a child out of wedlock. In much of Europe, affairs can be a badge of virility. That is the insinuation of an interview given by none other than Mr Strauss-Kahn’s wife, Anne Sinclair. Asked in 2006 whether she minded her husband’s reputation, she replied: “No, I’m rather proud of it! It’s important for a politician to seduce. As long as he seduces me and I seduce him, that’s enough for me.”

Well, this is europe.

French suspect smear campaign lies behind NY arrest
By Peggy Hollinger,Jennifer Thompson , in Paris

Four days after the arrest of Dominique Strauss-Kahn for an alleged attempted sexual assault on a New York maid, France is still in shock, with most convinced the French-born International Monetary Fund boss is the victim of a smear campaign.
Some 57 per cent of those questioned in an opinion poll this week believe that Mr Strauss-Kahn, a popular Socialist politician who was preparing to launch a bid for the presidency next year, has been stitched up.
The score shoots up to 70 per cent among Socialist voters. About 29 per cent believe that Nicolas Sarkozy, incumbent president, stands to gain most with Mr Strauss-Kahn out of the race, although there is no suggestion he is thought to be behind the affair.
Even though the French public is deeply suspicious of its political and business elite, there appears to be a collective struggle to comprehend how Mr Strauss-Kahn, a self-confessed womaniser who denies the assault charges, could have ended up in prison.

“It highlights France’s denial . . . people do not want to believe it and it is interesting from the collective psychology point of view,” said Jérome Sainte-Marie, political director at polling group CSA, in an interview with 20 Minutes, the free daily for whom the survey was taken, along with BFMTV et RMC.
The survey questioned 1,007 people on Monday.
In a café on Wednesday in the chic seventh arrondissement of Paris, an area of government buildings and boutiques, the talk at the bar was only of Mr Strauss-Kahn. Customers shared their disbelief with the owner. “It is not the first time,” he told one customer.
“He is completely stupid,” the owner concluded, shaking his head at the fate of a man who a week ago was widely tipped to become French president.
Even those on the right have found the tale so incredible they would not rule out some sort of plot to bring down Mr Strauss-Kahn. Henri de Raincourt, minister for co-operation, said he “excluded nothing” when asked about the possibility of a set-up.
The affair was a “new form of political assassination”, said Michelle Saban, vice-president of the Socialist party’s Ile-de-France regional council. “I am convinced of an international conspiracy. It was the IMF which was targeted and not so much the candidate in the Socialist primaries,” she said. “Everybody knows his weakness is women.”

WOW。。。 WHO IS THE BACKSTAGE MANIPULATOR?
Considering that he was on his way to Merkel, I prefer that the IMF was the target.
心好累。。。= =

France is gripped by the biggest political sex scandal the country has ever seen. TV news bulletins and rolling news channels have hit record audience figures, newpaper websites have seen traffic soar. Sociologists described a nation in shock, hooked on the "brute emotion" of a scenario in which one of the most powerful men in the world might have fallen so low. Psychoanalysts rushed to dissect the subconscious forces that might have driven Dominique Strauss-Kahn to allegedly commit an appalling act of violence in sexually assaulting and attempting to rape a hotel maid.
If he is found guilty, some suggested an unconscious drive to self-sabotage by a man who couldn't bear the power that had been foisted on him – his wife and all around him so wanted to see him become French president next year that he might have been unable to cope. Serge Hefez, the French psychiatrist, compared the Strauss-Kahn saga to the head-butt of the football hero Zinedine Zidane, which ended France's World Cup dream of 2006. If true, it was about the unbearable pressure of rising to the top, he suggested. All agreed that the image in France of DSK as a serial-seducer whose friends claimed he "loved women" was totally different from someone committing violent sex attacks, which could be psychologically linked to having low self-esteem, hating yourself and hating others.
France is not only psychoanalysing Strauss-Kahn; the nation has put itself on the couch. Sociologists also began to unpick why France is so enthralled by conspiracy theories that Strauss-Kahn might have been ensnared by a plot. A poll on Monday, the day after DSK's arrest, found 57% of French people, and 70% of Socialist sympathisers, thought he was the victim of a plot. Several leading names on the French left, as well as some of the right, suggested DSK could have fallen for some kind of manipulation or trap, leading Le Monde to run a front-page editorial warning that the conspiracy theories were a dangerous regression and threat to democracy. The environmental MEP Daniel Cohn-Bendit called for "an end to the rumours about plots".
The sociologist Denis Muzet suggested in Le Monde that the French public had fallen for conspiracy theories because people were so shocked by the accusations against such a popular politician that they had gone into denial. Stéphane Rozès, the political analyst, said French public opinion was oscillating between two theories: that Strauss-Kahn was either victim of a plot or he had some kind of sickness.
Strauss-Kahn's attitude to women continued to be dissected by journalists. The French news weekly Le Point claimed that shortly before he was detained by police who boarded an Air France plane at JFK airport, he had said to a flight attendant: "Nice arse."
