knowthestatistical properties ofbothprocesses.Fromthisbasisemergesa naturalratemodelinwhichtheratioofreal-output changetoprice-level changeinresponse
to
exogenousshiftsinaggregatexpenditure dependson therelativevarianceof
those
processes.Time-series cross-section datafora numberofcountries provide
someweakevidenceconsistent withthebasicconclusion. Theunderlying assumptionhas
goneoutoffavor, butthemodelingtechnique hasbeenveryinfluential.
