Primary Job Responsibilities
As a valued member of the team at eBay thatdevelops world-class search engine, you will make important contributions. Aspart of the Search Science organization, this team is responsible for buildinginfrastructure to monitoring eBay site search quality, enable search enginedebugging and issue fixing, validate and guarantee data and algorithm qualityused by search engine. In short, this team is the core to guarantee eBay sitesearch quality.
• This team will buildthe eBay production quality monitoring systems including search result qualityas well as the data/algorithm quality of every search engine component.
• Build the dashboard ofsystem monitoring data
• Build search enginedebugging tool which helps people to understand how eBay search engine works:help business and customer support people to explain how eBay search enginework and how different factors make the item ranking differently; help eBaydeveloper/researcher understand how the search engine works in each step.
• Build search enginerapid fix infrastructure to quickly turn around if any search site issues
• Technical lead for newand existing product initiatives, assist with definition of product direction
• Define, design,troubleshoot, and debug complex, multi-tier distributed software applicationson eBay platform.
• Work with manager,engineers, product management, QA and Operation team to design and implementapplication features.
• Estimate engineeringeffort, plan execution cycles, and rollout system changes.
Job Requirements
• BS, MS, or PhD inComputer Science or related technical discipline (or equivalent).
• 8+ years’ workexperience in software development area with at least 5+ years’ experience inJava programming.
• Excellent understandingof computer science fundamentals, data structures, and algorithms.
• Excellent problemsolving skills.
• Solid DB skills, datamining expertise are preferred.
• Familiarity withsearch/recommendation/classification applications and domains preferred.
• Proven results orientedperson with a delivery focus in a high velocity, high quality environment.
• Strong communicationskills in Oral and Written English.
• Working Experience inMulti-national Company is a plus.
Search Metrics, Staff Data Mining Analyst
Job Responsibilities
eBay Search Metrics is building world-classengineering teams in Shanghai, focusing on search related systems and servicessuch as user behavior/intent analytics and crowd sourcing judgments. The team’swork will directly impact eBay revenue by improving both search engineperformance and user experience on eBay.
We are seeking a data mining analyst to provideapplied research and data modeling expertise in this area. This is an excitingposition, providing the candidate an opportunity to solve web scale and highimpact business problems in the search engine space using statisticalmethodologies , data modeling, machine learning and information retrieval.
• Work with business andanalytics partners to support overall eBay business optimization;
• Apply advancedstatistical/econometric modeling tools to develop robust predicative models tosupport business initiatives;
• Conduct and manageapplied research and modeling work in the areas of query analysis, user behavior/intentanalysis, and search engine measurement.
• Research and experimentwith data mining algorithms for query segmentation and dynamic segmentexpansion.
• Utilize data miningtechnologies and various data sources like eBay web usage logs, search queryterms, human judgment data from crowd sourcing platform, and 3rd party data, togain insight into Internet user behavior and intent that will set thefoundation for eBay search engine services.
• Provide completesolutions to business problems using data mining techniques, statistics anddata analysis.
• Serve as subject matterexpert and drive thought leadership in the areas of identifying search engineimprovement needs, measurement and supporting release decisions for newalgorithms.
• Mentoring and coachingjunior staffs, driving internal operational excellence, and developing careerfor the team

Job Requirements
• MS degree or PhD(preferred) in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or equivalent isrequired for this position
• At least 5 yearexperience in areas of advanced reporting and data mining. Solid understandingof descriptive statistics, hypothesis testing, regression and varianceanalysis, classification and clustering, factor analysis, model selection, etc.
• Expertise with applyingpredictive modeling techniques, machine learning, statistics and informationretrieval methods to real-world data
• Superior communicationsskills, both verbal and written in English and Chinese
• Ability to workindependently and in a team to research innovative solutions to challengingbusiness problems
• Attention to detail anddata accuracy.
• Extensive experiencewith large data sets and data manipulation.
• Hands on with SQL,Oracle or Teredata, R or SAS is a must. Experience with python/perl/Hadoop ispreferred. Working experience or knowledge of search engine, informationretrieval is preferred.
