Staff System Development Engineer
eBay's APD (Analytic Platform &Delivery) China team is looking for a senior technologist to join itsworld-class Product Engineering team, working on the world's largest businessintelligence and analytic platform. As a first-level MTS (Member of TechnicalStaff), you will be leading design, development and implementation of APD's newHadoop-based solutions/products that enable eBay's global business users togain deeper business insights and make smarter business decisions. Job Responsibilities
- Lead development efforts, coordinate withData Warehouse and BI Engineers/Architects as well as Business Analyst andProduct Manager groups to design and develop new enterprise Hadoop-basedsolutions, and to ensure quality and a positive user experience for alldelivered solutions
- Technical lead for large, complexanalytic platform projects. Develop strategic and tactical implementation plansconsidering key business objectives and resource constraints
- Participate in requirement meetings witheBay end-users to clarify requirements. Understand eBay's unstructured datasets. Assist in documenting requirements, resolving ambiguities and conflicts,and gather consensus.
- Develop and own Hadoop developmentstandards and metadata, promoting their adoption and consistent use in alldesign and development mechanisms
- Lead the preparation of conceptual,logical and physical design documents. Present to management and technicalteams to obtain buy-in and approval. Coordinate design and code/applicationreviews.
- Prepare the logical and physicalcomponents for new Hadoop applications/solutions. Ensure methods and proceduresare followed that adhere to proper object-oriented software developmentstandards and techniques
- Tune the Hadoop solutions for betterperformance to improve end-user experience
- Provide training and support onHadoop-related technologies. Mentor junior engineers to gain and improve Hadoopknowledge and skills.
- Participate in continuous improvement ofAPD process to achieve better Agility.
Job Requirements
- BS/MS degree in CS or comparabletechnical field.
- 6+ years experience in data warehousing,business intelligence, data mining or software development, with 3+ yearsdeveloping Hadoop applications.
- Deep knowledge on Hadoop Ecosystem whichincluding Data Processing, Analytics and System administration.
- Mastery of developing high performancecode with Map-Reduce, Hive and HBase for handling huge volumes of data.
- Has plenty of experience on buildinganalytics from unstructured data on Hadoop platform.
- Extensive experience of Java development.Java certification is preferred.
- Must be a proven top performer and teamleader that enjoys challenging assignments in a high-energy and fast growingworkplace.
- Superior technical knowledge andexperience leading large-scale SW development projects using OO techniques andproper software engineering practices.
- Experience with SQL and large datawarehouse environments (preferably Teradata and/or Oracle), and anunderstanding of data warehousing concepts including dimensional and relationalmodeling (star/snowflake) is a big plus.
- Knowledge of Agile Development methods,such as Scrum and eXtreme Programming, is a big plus - Excellent verbal andwritten communication skills with the ability to clearly present complextechnical topics to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Detail oriented with superior analytical,problem solving, and organization skills.
- Strong personal networking skills withthe ability to relate to executives and employees through all organizationallevels.
