He or she is definitely wrong."Disable/Enable" just shows your current status of auto-renewal instead of your willingness towards auto-renewal by clicking on it.

If you are not sure, please proceed to http://www.garp.org/membership/overview/disable-enable-autorenewal.aspx to check it out. You will then find a message such that "Automatic Membership Renewal If you have elected to participate in GARP's automatic membership renewal program click  ENABLE". Meanwhile, you will find your status is now "Disable" at http://www.garp.org/membership/profile.aspx

Therefore, they are consistent, vice versa.
