1) Given:
i) the benefit reserve at time 23 for a fully discrete 20-payment whole life insurance of 5000 on (15) is 2925.
ii) the benefit reserve at time 24 for a fully discrete 20-payment whole life insurance of 5000 on (15) is 3000.
iii) i=.04
Find q38

2) Consider a fully discrete 10-payment whole life insurance of 1000 on (x):
i) the initial benefit reserve for year 10 is 355.75
ii)qx+9=.01262
iii) i=.06
Calculate the level annual benefit premium for a fully discrete whole life insurance of 1000 on (x+10).

V(23) * (1 + i) = q(38) * 5000 + p(38) * V(24)
2925 * 1.04 = q(38) * 5000 + (1 - q(38) ) * 3000

This simply means, reserve at time 23 with interest accumulated is equal to reserve at time 24 the benefit payout.

You should be able to solve for q(38)
