The fifth hike in reserve requirement by 50bps within a year continues PBOC's fight
against abundant liquidity, which has fuelled a significant rally in the stock market
and could potentially contribute to investment rebound. This also confirms our view
that the central bank is likely to maintain a tighten policy bias. More tightening
measures in 2007 could include further hikes in reserve requirement, increase in base
lending rate and faster appreciation of the currency
