1. Scan top journals. (But papers on the top journals are usually submitted two or three years ago. So the research topics are at least two or three years old. Not very updated.)
2. Go to weekly seminars. (Only one paper gets presented in two or three hours. And the frequency (one per week) indicates this is a slow method of getting updated. Not expected to cover a lot of things in a short time.)
3. Visit websites of big gurus to check their working papers. (Few professors put their working papers online nowadays.)
So, how does one get to know what topics are hot in the area?

thanks. there is indeed some overlapping between accounting and corporate finance. but they are not the same......

没必要跟的那么紧。每两三个月扫一遍top journal forthcoming article就差不多了。acct比较下游，扫finance和econ的forthcoming article就算比较前了。
然后就是扫top conference article，包括AFA, WFA, EFA，这些很多acct paper也去；然后如果是financial accounting，看看AAA FARS session, FARS mid-year随便瞄瞄，还有几个club conference，比如Utah winter。再嫌不够，扫top school seminar list，这个好多网上都有，也就这样了
