以下是楼主3年前申请研究生院校时写过的personal statement 里关于针对申请院校感兴趣的段落。

海外研究生院校主要有两种，一种是博士项目，专本培养研究人员和大学教授，但是少数人毕业后也可到企业找工作。读博士首先要把前两年的课程上完，但不需要拿硕士学位，然后考comprehensive exams 决定能不能当Phd Candidate。但是读完两年后也就相当于拿了一个硕士学位。 另一种是单独的硕士项目，一般只是针对想到企业找工作的人开的。 楼主当时没决定要选哪一种，但是这些段落是针对研究院校写的，不是到企业工作的那种。 老外最关心留学生的英语水平，特别是读写，当然要想拿奖学金也要提升自己的口语能力。 这样TA, RA, 和 GA 都能申请。

As English is my second language, I am constantly working to improve my English writing and reading capabilities. Upon coming to the United States, the maximum English I could write was 1000 words. In contrast, since transferring to the University of ***, I have written seven well-organized and cohesive economics papers and one 25-page research paper in a writing intensive class. I constantly challenge myself to do writing exercises and work to prepare in advance for each assignment to succeed in these writing courses. Additionally, I often read academic journals to accelerate my reading speed and expand my English vocabulary. These practices have greatly benefitted me in my coursework and have proven to be a valuable asset to me as a tutor as I am able to better explain abstract concepts with real life examples to many freshmen and sophomores. I received positive feedback from these students regarding my knowledge and teaching abilities related to subjects such as Elementary Macro and Micro Economics, Money and Banking, Introduction to Probability, and Introduction to Differential Equations.  Therefore, I feel that I have great potential in teaching and research as a graduate student.

The four-year learning experience I gained in my undergraduate college has and will continue to help me overcome the cultural differences between China and the U.S. I have benefited from the comparative advantages of both American and Chinese educational systems. Now the bilingual abilities and cultural background give me a unique advantage with which to engage in research regarding the financial relationships between China and the U.S. and to see how these two economic giants contribute to improving the global economy.

I believe the M.S. program at (*** Top 30) University will help me gain the strong mathematics and statistical background needed to excel in positions in many U.S. financial institutions. Additionally, the rigorous training of your program will further improve my critical thinking skills and advanced data analysis with applied modeling.

In conclusion, I am impressed by your department’s friendly student environment and high job placement records, and I believe I will enjoy working with other prospective students to achieve my goal in your program and beyond. Thank you very much for your consideration.

academic achievement/ research interest/future plan
希望申请人在写之前阅读申请院校成功案例的个人模版，熟悉思路方式。

不同的专业，模版略有不同，希望大家别乱抄。
