I found these website which have good suggestions for your personal statement, it is personal statement because it is true to yourself not other top students. Keep in mind that it is one of the most important piece of evidence that you could distinguish yourself from others, other application material such as transcript, application forms and recommendation letters could be more or less the same. Another personal experience of mine is that you will benefit dramatically to write yourself a good personal statement, it is just like you look into the mirror and tries to describe yourself to someone blind, also you will practice both your writing skills and be familiar with your accomplishment and future goal so that you could well prepared for the future interview for graduate school. (sometimes, good graduate schools interview you for admission or scholarship.)

Good luck with your application, one trick to write a good piece of PS from my experience is also that once you finished your draft, keep it for a few days and then look it again. You will be surprised to see how many changes you will make to your draft, after several iterations, your PS will be yours, personalized.
