What's the true value of analysing the trend of indexes when you invest stock market, especially if you are not a manager of Index Fund. Why I cannot only pay my attention to the trends of the stocks I wish to buy? Thx

In a general sense, we use indexes to judge the market is a bear market or a bull market. We all know in a bear market most stocks go down and in a bull market most of them go up. So, in what kind of market condition are you going to buy or sell if you really want to make money? In other words, we do not buy or sell individual stocks, we buy or sell probabilities actually.

But the trend of indexes is only the mixture of the trends of constituent stocks. I don't have much money to make a perfect portfolio and I'm only an individual, whether it's necessary for me to analyse the indexes?

I really want to know that during the depression of stock market, has a close and inevitable relatiionship between the trend of index and the trends of individual stocks? dosen't the index only reflect the trends of most stocks, but not all of them, which only shows a possibility if you can earn money.

You are so professional. However I don't think all the investors make their portfolio based on the index, especially the investors without muchu money.

According to my experience, the trend of indexes is significant. During the decrease of indexes, though not all the price of stocks will go down, the stocks which have been decreasing will decrease over your expectation. On the other hand, the stocks which have been increasing will increae slower and less. The environment is so important which influences the investors' expectation.
