Three-year PhD grants in economics (2014-2017) at PSE

The Paris School of Economics (PSE) is inviting applications for two three-year PhD grants starting in October 2014 to work in the framework of the project“The Economics of Cultural Transmission and Applications to Communities, Organizations and Markets (TECTACOM)” financed by the European Research Council and managed by Thierry Verdier, senior researcher at the Paris School of Economics.
The project aims at developing theoretical and empirical dynamic population models of preferences evolution and cultural transmission interacting with the functioning of communities, organizations and markets. Jointly with senior researchers, the research will focus on various dimensions of cultural transmission that relate to economic analysis.
It will also involve economic applications to themes where a cultural transmission perspective appears to be relevant such as:
a) the resilience of socially dysfunctional behaviours (crime, delinquency, gang culture) in local communities,
b) the design and diffusion of corporate culture in firms in competitive environments,
c) culture and the political economy of institutional changes,
d) experimental games involving cultural transmission mechanisms.
Applicants must show outstanding achievement in their education and they must hold a Master in economics prior to September 2014 from an institution that provides a high level of training in economics. Applicants should have a strong motivation for theoretical, empirical and/or experimental modelling techniques in game theory, population and evolutionary dynamic models, and/or social network analysis applied to economic contexts.
