The asterisk means that each variable so denoted is expressed as a percentage rate of change,

In the computations, equation (1 ) was calculated in its logarithmic form;
that is, all the starred terms were defined as logs of the compound rates of
change. The rate of change in productivity（A） is then obtained by taking
antilogs, subtracting 1 from the result, and multiplying by 100.
