作为读者没有必要区别这些。学校和科研部门认定一个人的学术研究,除了看发表总量外,还看质量。这个质量既包括期刊的档次,也包括一作和通讯的比例。
举个例子,如果按照字母排序,姓张的学者就会很吃亏,每次要排后面。但这并不是常态。如果要考核一个张姓学者的英文发表,要看
1、他是否每次作为最后一个作者?如果是,有多大比例是通讯作者。如果因为字母顺利作为最后一个作者,但同时有一定比例的通讯作者,那么可以认为他实际上对那些论文做了主要贡献。前提是在比较良好的学术环境中。
2、如果他有一定比例的发表没有按照字母顺利,且排在其他人之前,也可以认定他的贡献。
3、上述情况都以数量为基础。如果他只发过一篇,那也无从谈起。
要让别人了解你的学术水平和发表,数量和质量并重是很要紧的。如果一个人有源源不断质量稳定的发表,其实作者排名顺序就不再重要了。就算他的一作和通讯是别人“让渡”的,那也得有很强的人脉关系和圈内口碑,别人才肯让。这也就反过来证明了作者的能力和能量。
我举个例子,但不针对谁。国内有一位老师叫Zheng Siqi,按照排序,ta应该经常出现在最后的位置,但大家看看ta的发表列表。

排在最后的主要ta刚刚出道的时候,也就是别人不可能“让”着时候。这两篇论文发表在2002和2004,也就是10年前(注:Zheng是2005年博士毕业的)。之后,ta的论文基本就只有2011年一次排在最后。
这些发表中最重量级的是JEL,Zheng是第一作者,Matthew Kahn在后面。比较好的期刊EER,JUE,JRS和RSUE,Zheng都是一作。这种情况下,不管实际贡献大小,我们都可以判断ta的能力。
