Japan life insurer group: would consider TEPCO loan if asked

(Reuters) - The head of Japan's life insurance industry association said on Friday the group would sincerely consider a request for a loan from beleaguered nuclear power operator Tokyo Electric Power Co (TEPCO) if the utility asked.

Koichiro Watanabe, chairman of the Life Insurance Association of Japan, made the remark at a regular news conference.

Watanabe is also president of Dai-ichi Life Insurance , which is the second-largest shareholder in TEPCO with a 4.1 percent stake. Rival Nippon Life Insurace also has a 3.9 percent stake in the power utility.
