    Abstract:  The article presents the analysis of strength, weakness, opportunities and threats of Suntory Holdings Ltd., a brewing and distilling company in Japan. It notes that the company has strong financial status with strong market presence in the beverage industry. Accordingly, it faces problems due to its ownership status, which might be affected on the declining growth of non-alcoholic beverages in the Japanese market.

     Abstract:The article shares the author's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threat (SWOT) analysis of the economic downturn in the U.S. She mentions the advantages of the meltdown like increasing the sense of humility, recommitment to jobs and focusing on faith and family. The author opines that the recession is the time to reassess values and priorities. She adds that Baby Boomers did not expect that their standard of living will be affected by uncontrollable forces.

4.Title:  Growing Ulva (Chlorophyta) in integrated systems as a commercial crop for abalone feed in South Africa: a SWOT analysis

Abstract:  Over 1,000t fresh weight of Ulva was cultivated on South African abalone farms in 2007, primarily for feed, but in one case to allow partial re-circulation by nutrient removal. The potential of this new commercial crop is analysed. Material is collected from natural free-floating populations and at least four species are commonly grown, with different ecophysiological characteristics. A brown epiphyte, Myrionema strangulans, causes a disease of the Ulva, which is currently managed by farmers by re-stocking. The main potential threat is that some farmers are wary of integrated systems, fearing they may promote disease in abalone, although Ulva has been grown in abalone effluent and fed back to the abalone on one farm for 6 years without adverse effects. Opportunities exist for the expansion of Ulva cultivation via further spread of the abalone industry, the inclusion of seaweed raceways in proposed fish-farming activities, or the potential for the inclusion of high quality cultivated Ulva as a constituent in aquafeed. A conservative estimate of production over a full year from these raceway systems was 26.1 g dw m−2 day−1 (2006) and 19.7 g dw m−2 day−1 (2007), similar to maximum figures for total annual microalgal biomass production in outdoor systems.

   Abstract:The first generation of reforms in Serbia, especially in 2001–2002, was carried out “by the book” but the initial successful results blurred and concealed numerous problems that, especially in 2003, were becoming more evident and, finally, caused a delay in, and the blockade of, the further reform processes. It turned out that the political élite failed to reach a consensus on the second generation of reforms which, above all, refers to the rounding-off and functioning of the institutions of a market economy and the rule of law in full. After the October 2000 changes, relations between the FRY/SM and the European Union have altered dramatically. Joining the EU became strategic priority of our foreign policy, as well as reintegration of the SM in the international community. Nevertheless, these processes have their strengths and weaknesses, potential opportunities and threats, which are summarized in this paper.

   Abstract:  Zakynthos, an island of 408 km2 in the Ionian Sea, is completely dependent on its groundwater resources for fulfilling the demands of the water supplies. The use of groundwater resources has become particularly intensive during the last decades because of the intense urbanization, the tourist development and the irrigated land expansion that took place. The main aquifers are developed in limestones (karstic), sandstones of neogene deposits (confined) and alluvial deposits (phreatic). This paper focuses on the assessment of their hydrogeological characteristics and the groundwater quality. For this investigation, groundwater level measurements, drilling data, pumping tests and chemical analyses of groundwater samples were used. The average annual consumption that is abstracted from the aquifer systems, is 4.9 × 106 m3 year−1. The exploitable groundwater reserves were estimated to be 3.3 × 106 m3 year−1. In the last decades, the total abstractions exceed the natural recharge, due to the tourist development; therefore the aquifer systems are not used safely. The results of chemical analyses showed a deterioration of the groundwater quality. According to the analyses the shallow alluvial aquifer and the confined aquifer are polluted by nitrates at concentrations in excess of 25 mg L−1. High sulphate concentrations might be related to the dissolution of gypsum. Seawater intrusion phenomena are recorded in coastal parts of aquifer systems. The increased Cl− concentrations in karstic aquifer indicate signs of overexploitation. Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) analysis was applied in order to evaluate the SWOT of the groundwater resources. Moreover, some recommendations are made to assist the rational management that aim at improving the sustainability of the groundwater resources of Zakynthos Island.

   Abstract:  Forest owner cooperations (FOC) are bundling wood supply from small-scale forests and some also offer additional services, such as wood harvesting or planting. FOCs are growing throughout Europe in terms of the managed timber volume. The increasing timber demand of forest-based industries as well as the new, rapidly growing demand for energy plants could lead to an under-supply in the following years in Europe. Because of high harvesting arrears in small-scale forests, FOCs are seen as an opportunity to overcome this foreseen timber shortage. The paper maps out timber mobilisation strategies using the SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) approach.

Abstract:  Evaluating the competitive position of location develops global logistics hub (GLH) is a multiple criteria decision-making (MCDM) problem and it is important for governor to implement suitable strategies appropriate its environment. SWOT analysis is very important in the process of strategic formulation. Under many conditions, the evaluative criteria (indicators) are mixed with quantitative/qualitative values and the values for qualitative criteria are often imprecisely defined for decision-makers. A quantified SWOT analytical method, that integrates the method of fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method, was proposed to provide more detailed and quantified data for SWOT environmental analysis to assess the competitive relation for locations develop different types’ GLH in Pacific–Asian region. Integrating the concept of Grand Strategy Matrix (GSM), a suitable competing strategy could be suggested for location developing GLH in accordance with its competitive position.

9.Title:  The Behaviour and Performance of Young Micro Firms: Evidence from Businesses in Scotland

   Abstract : This paper is an empirical study, making appeal to firsthand evidence gathered by face-to-face interviews with the owner-managers of 150 small firms in Scotland. It investigates the performance of the micro firm in the early years of its life cycle, by reference to four key behavioural characteristics: (i) strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) analysis; (ii) the gathering of trade intelligence on the firm''s rivals; (iii) the use of information technology (IT) in the business; and (iv) financial form and the owner-manager''s preferences as regards the form of their equity stake holding. Seven propositions, based on the evidence accumulated, are formulated, and tested. These are illustrated by boxplots and cross-tabulations, and supported with chi-square statistics for testing measures of association. Taken together, the data provide an illuminating picture of the strategic behaviour of the young micro firm, and the subsequent effect that actions can have on firm performance. In particular, it is found that the use of IT in clusters of devices has a highly significant positive association with performance.
