Rapidly surging asset prices necessitate a wise monetary policy for 2010. While the lax monetary policy has boosted real economic growth and staved off a recession following the global financial crisis, inflationary pressure looms large as the economy picks up, posing great challenges to policymakers. This year’s monetary policy aims at providing both asset and commodity prices a soft landing while maintaining relative stable economic growth. Beijing has, much to our delight, imposed stricter regulations to monitor the asset quality of domestic banks. Aside from preventing further swelling, the authorities have moved in to lessen the likelihood of a sudden pop in the asset bubble.
