China: China’s auto sales in July 2010 reached 1,244,038 units, up 14%
Y/Y but down 12% MM. Sales of passenger vehicles reached 946,172,
up 14% Y/Y yet down 9% M/M, while sales of commercial vehicles
were at 297,866, up 17% Y/Y yet down 19% M/M. In January-July,
China’s auto sales volume rose 43% Y/Y, with passenger vehicle sales
up 43% Y/Y and commercial vehicle sales up 42% Y/Y.
• Korea: HMC and KIA together sold 94,155 units in July (-1.3% Y/Y;
+1.2% M/M), making up 79% of the Korean market. Both HMC and
KIA gained market share M/M by 0.6%-0.8 % each, taking market share
away from Renault Samsung and Ssangyong, which lost 1.6% and 0.2%
points, respectively. Total Korean market sales were 119,826 units, up
1.1% Y/Y and down 0.8% M/M.
• India: Jul-10 four-wheeler sales were up 32.5% Y/Y to 293,980 units.
Two-wheeler sales were up 32.2% Y/Y, and three-wheeler sales were up
45.8% Y/Y. Passenger car sales growth was 32.2% Y/Y to 211,572 units
in July, while commercial vehicle (CV) sales increased 40.1% Y/Y in
July to 57,188 units.
• Taiwan: Auto sales continued to see strong growth in July, with sales
volume rising 25% M/M and 24% Y/Y. Overall auto sales increased
23% Y/Y in the first seven months of the year. Likewise, the Taiwan
government offered a NT$30,000 subsidy for every passenger vehicle
purchased with an engine size below 2.0 liters in 2009 in an attempt to
boost the domestic economy.
• Indonesia: Vehicle sales in July rose 2.5% M/M and 72% Y/Y to over
72,000 units for the month. YTD vehicle sales were 62% of our full-year
forecasts, indicating that there should be limited downside risk to our
711,000 unit forecast for the year, even allowing for some seasonal dips
during the rest of the year.
