Undertake some basic research on a company listed on a well-established stock / securities exchange, which has both ordinary shares / common stock and preference shares / preferred stock, on issue. Track the historical share price of each of the share types on a monthly basis over at least the last 3 years.
Required:
a) Outline the particular characteristics of the preference (preferred stock) shares on issue – maturity date, conversion / cumulative nature (if any), fixed / variable dividend.
b) Detail the relative return performance of each of the share types over this period.
c) As it is the same company, why would the return performance of each of the share types be different? Justify your response.
