It seems the conflict between the SOA and the CAS has taken a new turn. The CAS appears to be trying, one last time, to return the SOA to the path of cooperation that has characterized life in the Actuarial Profession for all time. Here is the text of a letter that was sent from the CAS board to the SOA board:
TO: SOA Board of Directors
The CAS and SOA have enjoyed decades of a close, mutually beneficial collaborative relationship. Our organizations have been partners in advancing the actuarial profession on many levels.
We are concerned that the conflicting paths our organizations are taking are unhealthy for the profession and for our present and future stakeholders. We believe it would be in the best interests of members of both organizations and the actuarial profession to work together to find a better way forward.
Our Board is prepared to meet with your Board. However, in the interest of time, we propose that representatives of our Boards meet first to explore options for a more constructive path. We would approach this meeting with no preconditions regarding the structure of the profession.
Time is of the essence given the importance of these issues and the activities already underway. We suggest that we begin discussions as soon as possible.
I will contact Tonya Manning shortly to discuss the potential next steps.
Sincerely,
Gary R. Josephson, CAS President
