contingent基本上的意思就是dependent，依赖于，依赖的，那么如何理解呢，可以视作不确定的，视情况而定的意思。Contingent means that the property has an accepted offer but may require the Buyer to sell their home before completing the sale. 这段话的意思是contingent表示某个财产你可以买但是你买下来就得倾家荡产，显然这里就表达了情况不确定，要视情况而定的意思。
