To celebrate the University's research successes, the University of Hull is offering, in an open competition, up to 80 full-time UK/EU PhD Scholarship or International Fees Bursaries. The below project is eligible for funding under this Scholarship scheme.

Promoting growth in income per capita is a key item in any nation’s policy agenda. Countries desire economic growth to increase the standard of living of their citizens. In low income countries, economic growth is also seen as a prerequisite for advancing human capital, public infrastructure, business competitiveness, and social inclusion: all key dimensions of the development process. As a consequence, we could say that the key driver of development is economic growth. In addition, the expansion of a nation’s international trade seems to be linked to successful growth and development experiences.
The purpose of this research topic is to improve our understanding of the relationship between economic growth, trade and development. Applicants are asked to produce a proposal that falls within the following range of projects: export diversification and economic growth, the structural transformation process in open economies, foreign direct investment and economic growth, public infrastructure and economic development, and trade openness and economic growth.
Full-time UK/EU PhD Scholarships will include fees at the ‘home/EU' student rate and maintenance (￡13,863 in 2014/15) for three years, depending on satisfactory progress.
Full-time International Fee PhD Studentships will include full fees at the International student rate for three years, dependant on satisfactory progress.
PhD students at the University of Hull follow modules for research and transferable skills development and gain a Masters level Certificate, or Diploma, in Research Training, in addition to their research degree.
Successful applicants will be informed of the award as soon as possible and by 20th March 2015 at the latest.
