考研英语中对有关than的搭配用法出现频率较高，than的本义是"比"，可以接名词、短语、句子，但是无论是在阅读还是在翻译中给我们造成理解障碍的是，than前面的比较级通常是more或者less，会不明白这句话想表达的意思到底是肯定的还是否定的，下面就than的搭配作下整理
1. more than
more than本义是"多"的意思，可根据后面所接的不同性质的词换一种汉语表达，这样更能理解整句话的含义，有以下三种情况：1）more than+数字→多于；more than+名词/动词→不仅仅是；more than+形容词/副词/分词→非常，例如：
Deliberate practice entails more than simply repeating a task. （2007,Text 1）
刻意练习包含的不仅仅只是重复一个任务。
more than的肯定或者否定形式也可以这样表达：1）anything more than→不仅仅是 2）nothing more than→只不过是（not...anything more than），例如：
teenagers, who desire nothing more than fitting in.（2012,Text 1）
只不过是想融入进去的青少年们
more than如果分开写的话变成more A than B, 意思也会有相应的变化，本义为"跟B比起来A更多"。如果A和B表示同类性质的词或短语，即A和B是并列的，那么要翻译为"与其说B，倒不如说A"。more A than B的否定形式：no more...than...（not...any more than）→既不......也不......, 同......也不......例如：
This success led Ericsson to conclude that the act of memorizing is more of a cognitive exercise than an intuitive one.（2007 Text 1）
这次成功使得艾瑞克森得出这样一个结论：记忆的行为与其说是直觉上的活动倒不如说是认知上的活动。
But his primary task is not to think about the moral code, which governs his activity, any more than a businessman is expected to dedicate his energies to an exploration of rules of conduct in business. （2007 Text 1）
但是他的主要任务不是去思考支配其行为的道德规范，正如人们不期待商人把他的精力投入到探索商业中的行为准则一样。
2. less than
less than本义是"少于"，若后面接形容词的话可以带有轻微否定含义，译为"不太，不很"。less than的肯定或者否定形式：anything less than→毫不，绝不，nothing less than（not...anything less than）→简直，就是。例如：
nothing gets people talking like the suggestion that child rearing is anything less than a completely fulfilling, life-enriching experience.（2011 Text 4）
人们认为养孩子是一件令人愉悦、生活充实的事情。
less A than B跟more A than B的判断方式一样，如果A和B是并列的，就是与其说A倒不如说B，例如：
Science, in practice, depends far less on the experiments it prepares than on the preparedness of the minds of the men who watch the experiments.（1999 Text 5）
在实践中，科学与其说依靠的是它所准备的实验倒不如说是实验观察者大脑的已准备。
除了以上这两组之外还有rather than（而不是），other than（除了），这两个是意义比较固定的，较容易理解一些。务必要牢记这些搭配喔，这样才能快速准确地判断这句话想要表达什么
