SHANGHAI— Honda Motor Co. is recalling more than 1 million vehicles in China over faulty Takata Corp.-made air-bag inflaters, the latest fallout from the defective vehicle components.
According to a statement posted Friday on the website of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, the recall covers about 533,000 CR-V crossover vehicles, 460,000 Civic sedans, 48,000 Spirior sedans and 684 imported hybrid Civic sedans.
Japan-based Honda confirmed the recall and said it would replace the air bags for Chinese drivers free of charge
Millions of vehicles equipped with Takata’s air bags, which risk rupturing and spraying shrapnel, have been recalled world-wide. The safety problem has been linked to at least 11 deaths and more than 100 injuries world-wide, though no injuries have been reported in China.
The faulty air bags are found in vehicles produced by several auto makers, including Toyota Motor Corp., General Motors Co. and Daimler AG. Vehicles equipped with the faulty Takata air bags represent almost 14% of the roughly 250 million vehicles on U.S. roads.
