I am going to take MFE in May 2011

Is it OK if I use ASM 7th edition? Or must I switch to ASM 8th edition (which is newest version)?

Is there a lot of changes between them?

No. Just read the MFE syllabus and found no big changes. To pass should not be a problem (if you do 7ed thoroughly, of course).

4# 精算者66 um......I don't know.....I personally didn't find MFE a hard one...instead I found it most interesting...
People say it's difficult probably because problems of MFE are often tricky, not straight-forward formula applications like MLC or FM. So if you FULLY understand all the concepts, not just memorizing them, you should be fine. I found deriving formulas (Ex. option-pricing, closed-form solutions of different SDEs) myself a good practice when I learned this course. Unfortunately, you can't find them in manuals.
I would say Shreve's Stochastic Calculus for Finance II is a good reference book (I won't suggest reading McDonald's Derivatives Markets. It's notorious for many mistakes. And you only have a few months). But if your goal is only a pass, then doing manual is more than enough.

8# pepper416 If it's ASM vs. ACTEX, then personally I strongly recommend ASM. I've done ACTEX's manual for FM, and found its logic sometimes funny and misleading. And it's a bit too easy.
I tried Guo's manual for MLC, and don't like it either. It's formula-intensive, maybe good material for a short review few days before your exam. (I haven't read his MFE manuals.)
By far, ASM is my favorite manual.
Another good material is SOA's own sample questions with very detailed answers. These questions are made by people who will actually write exam questions. You could have a look:

A few of them are a lot harder than what you'll see in real exams. But that's what the sample questions are for: they push for a deeper understanding.
