美媒：最后50人坚守核电站 受高量辐射已做赴死准备

据悉，坚守厂区的包括50名最精干的抢险队员，但日本方面没有披露他们的具体名字。他们在电站防护措施最为严密的控制室内坚持工作，其主要任务就是确保每分钟都有数百立方米海水源源不断地注入三个在震后“高烧不退”的反应堆中，并确保堆内压力始终保持正常。
这些坚守电站的抢险队员有的是经验丰富的退休老工人，也有的是志愿加入抢险队伍的电站骨干力量。尽管他们身穿最现代化的防护服，但仍不足以抵抗控制室外高强度放射线的危害。这些做好慷慨赴死准备的工人为其他救援工作赢得了宝贵的时间。


点睛之笔：关键时候，只有工人阶级靠得住。如果不是这些工人，我们恐怕都已经笼罩在核污染下了。我流泪了。

1986年，参与切尔诺贝利电站救援任务的176名工人中，有很多在任务结束后数周就不幸因接受了大剂量辐射而去世，当地还有50万居民的健康受到了严重影响。由于保护措施到位，福岛核电站预计不会发生类似切尔诺贝利那样的大灾难，但工人健康仍将严重受损。

感动，真正第一次看到无产阶级的组织性和纪律性和战斗性，以前我一直以为只是理论上的，想不到有一天被日本工人保护。

US Military Joins In Quake-Relief

U.S. military forces stepped up relief activities in support of Japanese efforts to cope with a humanitarian crisis.

The 8.9-magnitude earthquake and subsequent tsunami that struck eastern Japan on Friday left thousands unaccounted for and sent more than 200,000 evacuees to relief centers in search of food, water and shelter.

Marines stationed on Okinawa dispatched a high-speed military ferry to Japan Monday morning to assist in the operations, according to the U.S. military. The fast logistics craft, based on a commercial passenger ferry, is to deliver supplies, communications equipment, personnel and equipment for a refueling base.

U.S. Marines continued reconnaissance operations for the planned land-based supply and refueling base, to be set up west of Sendai. 'They're going to be building it by today, tomorrow or sometime in the next 48 hours,' said Sgt. Maj. Steve Valley, a military spokesman. 'So at least then we'll have a supply point close to the major damage.'

Aircraft based on Okinawa also took part in the relief operation. According to a Marine Corps news release, two KC-130J cargo aircraft flew to Marine Corps Air Station on Futenma to pick up a command-and-control system and transport it to Naval Air Station Atsugi, Japan. Eight Marine CH-46E transport helicopters are also flying in support of the relief effort.

The large-scale mobilization of U.S. armed forces stationed in Japan and elsewhere marked the first such wide-ranging joint operation to deal with a disaster, according to Kyodo News.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Navy's Seventh Fleet was forced to make an unexpected detour after encountering low-level radiation downwind of a damaged Japanese nuclear power plant on the country's tsunami-ravaged northeast Pacific coast, the Yokota-based U.S. Forces Japan said in a statement.

The contamination from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant was detected by U.S. ships en route to the devastated northeastern Japanese city of Sendai and by their accompanying aircraft in the area, the military said.

U.S. Navy disaster-response operations were centered on the USS Ronald Reagan Carrier Strike Group, including more than seven ships that arrived Sunday and took up positions off of the northeastern coast of Japan's main island.

The group's namesake super-size aircraft carrier is being positioned to serve as a floating refueling base for relief aircraft flown by the Japanese Self- Defense Forces and coast guard, as well as fire, police and other civilian authorities involved in search-and-rescue operations in the area, the military said.

在黑暗中，他们头戴呼吸器或者身背氧气筒，拿着手电筒穿过迷宫一般的建筑与设备，耳畔不断响起氢气与空气接触后爆炸的声音。虽然他们都穿着白色的连体衣，戴着紧身头罩，但这些衣物仅能提供微不足道的辐射防护。

SEOUL — U.S. military assets continue to converge on Japan, hoping to deliver humanitarian assistance while being careful not to expose servicemembers to radiation leaking from the crippled Fukushima Dai-ichi power plant.

“We continue to monitor the winds closely, moving our ships and aircraft as necessary to avoid the wind line from the Fukushima Power Plant,” U.S. 7th Fleet spokesman Cmdr. Jeff Davis said in an e-mail.

“Aircraft and aircrews returning from missions ashore are being monitored carefully for contamination, and are conducting decontamination procedures as necessary when it is detected,” he said.

AdvertisementDavis said the USS Ronald Reagan Carrier Strike Group flew 29 sorties Tuesday, delivering 17 tons of supplies — including food, water and blankets — to hard-hit areas of northeastern Japan.

To date, 25 tons have been delivered, he said.

In addition, strike group aircraft conducted three coastal search-and-rescue sorties on Tuesday.

The strike group, which is continuing operations Wednesday off the east coast of Honshu, includes the cruiser USS Chancellorsville; destroyer USS Preble; combat support ship USNS Bridge; along with guided-missile destroyers USS Fitzgerald, USS John S. McCain, USS McCampbell and USS Curtis Wilbur.

An additional destroyer, USS Mustin, is at sea south of the disaster site.

On Tuesday morning, Davis said, “sensitive instrumentation on USS George Washington pier-side in Yokosuka detected low levels of radioactivity from the Fukushima plant. While there was no danger to the public, Commander, Naval Forces Japan recommended limited precautionary measures for personnel and their families on Fleet Activities Yokosuka and Naval Air Facility Atsugi, including limiting outdoor activities and securing external ventilation systems as much as practical.

“These measures are strictly precautionary in nature,” he continued. “We do not expect that any United States federal radiation exposure limits will be exceeded even if no precautionary measures are taken.”

The USS Tortuga, with two heavy-lift MH-53 helicopters embarked, picked up about 300 Japan Ground Self-Defense Force personnel and 90 vehicles Tuesday in Tomakomai, Hokkaido, and was scheduled to deliver them to Ominato, on the island of Honshu.

Davis said the USS Essex, USS Harpers Ferry and USS Germantown, with the embarked 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, continue en route to the area and are expected Thursday.

“Given the radiological and navigation hazards on the eastern coast of Honshu, the ships will take position in the Sea of Japan on the west coast of Honshu, where they will be in the best position to launch disaster relief missions over land,” Davis said.
