Why？ i think Waterloo provides one of the best PHD programs in the area of actuarial science, and....I applied this PHD program this year, still waiting for the result.

Could you please give some reasons why you don't think it is a good choice? Thanks.

Most people think that Waterloo has top professors in ActSc. But then what? If you want to stay in Waterloo as a professor in your future, then you can't get your pay as high as others in US. If you want to persue your career in banks or insurance companies, phd is not a big issue for them. The mainly focus for them is your working experience. You can find out that the managers or common employees even rarely have master degree.

如果有机会读的话 我的打算是在中国的大学教书  所以必须有一个phd degree  
如果在行业内的话 如 保险公司 再保险公司 或精算咨询 是不是博士学历并不会为自己加分（在录取及其后的职业发展方面）？

我现在也在纠结要不要申Ph.D。。。。。如果你是坚定回大学工作，也没什么好犹豫的。不过我真的很想知道在企业工作是不是真的不需要Ph.D？唉，纠结

哈哈~~原来你也在纠结~~~如果读的话 你打算读什么专业的phd呢？   我也同问是不是大多数企业真的那么不喜欢phd？

我会选择美国商学院下保险风险管理的项目。现在估计真不大需要PhD，但十年后会不会就被淘汰呢。。。呵呵

I think phd degree from waterloo will be enough for you to be at least a lecturer in university in China. I am only an undergrad, but I know some Chinese phd. They prefer to stay in north america. If you want to back China for future career, phd is not good. They don't want to pay you at the relative market rate, since it's too high for them. Actually, one thing is more important if you choose Waterloo, English. Some phd's offer entry level university courses, but few of us can understand what they are talking about. Sometimes, they are laughed by other native speaker. I got one course with one phd from Perking University, who is really really bad at her English & teaching.
