Detailed PC database released, and our 2010 forecast remains
unchanged. Gartner released its final “Personal Computer Quarterly
Statistics Worldwide Database, 02/10” last week. This provides segment,
form factor and pricing details for the fourth quarter of 2009. We have not
made any material changes to our 2010 forecast (we are looking for 15.8%
unit growth, versus 15.7% previously), though the underlying drivers have
changed somewhat. We are also introducing our 2011 PC forecast, where
we are looking for 12% unit growth.

We provide an in-depth analysis of trends by form factor, geography
and market segment. We saw continued improvements in notebook growth,
but desktops also posted a surprising rebound. Within notebooks, netbooks
declined as a percent of the total for the first time. From a market share
perspective, Hewlett-Packard remains the dominant vendor, with 19.7% unit
share. Acer comes in a distant second, with 13.4% share, and Dell rounds
out the top 3 at 11.5% share.

We remain optimistic on PC demand, though stock selection is critical.
We continue to believe Outperform-rated HP and Apple represent the most
attractive PC-exposed stocks. While we recognize Dell should see some
benefit from a budding corporate replacement cycle, market share and
margin pressures could mute much of these gains.
