Canadian renewable energy operators and developers are scheduled to report
Q1/10 results over the next two weeks. In addition to presenting companyspecific
expectations for the upcoming earnings season, this bulletin also
provides a review of equity performance trends in recent months, our thoughts
on sector valuation, an update on various Canadian incentive programs for
renewable energy and an overview of upcoming legislative action in the United
States.
• Shares of large Canadian independent power producers (ex-geothermal) have
appreciated an average of 17 % since the beginning of 2010. The sector has
outperformed the broader market, but we still see upside potential for several
equities in the group.
• For growth-focused investors, we believe that Boralex Inc. (BLX-T) is
undervalued relative to its ultimate earnings potential once development
projects start commercial production. We also consider Innergex Renewable
Energy Inc. (INE-T) a compelling mix of yield and growth.
• For yield-oriented investors, we prefer Brookfield Renewable Power Fund
(BRC.UN-T) to Boralex Power Income Fund (BPT.UN-T).
