Financial Data Resources
The following are financial research databases available for postgraduate students and staff in the Business School. The most useful databases for research purposes are Datastream and Osiris for UK companies and markets, and Compustat and CRSP for US companies and markets. Thomson OneBanker provides a similar range of information.
Company Analysis
Financial analysis for over 23,000 companies in over 70 countries. Access via Thomson OneBanker.
Compustat
More than 400 annual and 150 quarterly income statements, balance sheets, cash flow and supplemental data items on more than 25,000 publicly held companies. Financial data on over 14,000 American companies.
Corporate Takeovers Defence and Governance Database
Corporate Takeover Defence Database gathers data on anti-takeover features for a large group of companies, including information on the existence of poison pills, classified boards, super-majority provisions, and golden parachutes, among others. Importantly, the data set includes information on whether a company is incorporated in a state that has enacted a fair price, business combination, or control share acquisition statute.
CRSP
Centre for Research in Securities Prices. Security prices, returns, and volume data for the NYSE, AMEX and Nasdaq stock markets. Additional CRSP files provide stock indices, beta- and cap-based portfolio, treasury bond and risk free rates and mutual fund databases.
Datastream
Share price and other market and economic data, and accounting data for listed companies. Coverage is most complete for the UK. Datastream services draw on the world's most comprehensive, historical, numerical financial database to deliver top quality research and analytical products for the global financial services marketplace.
Eikon
What was previously Reuters 3000 Xtra is now Eikon, the high-speed, high-performance information service for financial professionals. It delivers a potent combination of real-time information and powerful analysis tools including equities - the complete equity market picture from research to execution - Fixed income, news, research, analysis and execution. FX and money markets -commodities, funds, real estate and Islamic finance combined with custom analysis tools.
FAME
Financial Analysis Made Easy (on trial). Financial information database for UK and Irish companies, updated monthly with up to ten years of data. Includes thousands of unlisted companies. FAME allows you to search by any combination of over 300 criteria including: geographic location, SIC code or activity description, statement items, ratios, credit score/rating, legal form, year of incorporation, holding company / subsidiary.
I/B/E/S
Historic earnings estimates and forecasts for internationally quoted companies dating back to 1985. Access via Thomson OneBanker.
ISS Directors Data
ISS is a leading provider of corporate governance solutions to the global financial community. Some may know this service as Riskmetrics. It contains board and director data (previous appointments, gender, ethnicity, independence, etc.) for S&P 1500 firms since 1994. These items are important controls in studies which look at pay issues. Thus, this database is an important complement to ExecuComp.
London Share Price Database
Monthly data (returns, market values, earnings, dividends, return indices data, industries returns data) on more than 8,000 UK securities.
Morningstar Company Intelligence
Morningstar Company Intelligence is an online research resource for academic staff and students, providing detailed information on the UK's business leaders and their companies. Updated daily, it includes over one million directorships, 14,000 quoted company directors, 3,000 quoted company officers, 300,000 unquoted companies, 2,200 quoted companies as well as company news.
Osiris
Financial information on 55,000 listed and major unlisted/delisted companies worldwide. 43,000 are non-US companies. Also includes company documents such as annual reports and prospectuses.
SDC Platinum
International M&A data. Access via Thomson OneBanker.
S&P ExecuComp
This offers executive compensation data in addition to detailed breakouts of compensation data under the pre-2006 reporting rules for those who are researching historical compensation trends.

Contains more than 33,000 executives
Executive compensation data on the top officers of over 3,000 companies

The ExecuComp database provides summary compensation data, as well as full details on executive stock and option awards as well as pension plans allowing you to see the complete picture of how executives are compensated. Furthermore, selected company financial information is included which allows you to compare executive pay versus company performance, providing you with previously hard-to-find information.
Thomson One
The desktop solution delivers information and analysis tools for investment banking. It provides access to relevant real-time global market data, news, and authoritative content from industry-leading sources. It provides quick and easy access to quotes, earnings estimates, financial fundamentals, market moving news, transaction data, corporate filings, ownership profiles and research. It contains I/B/E/S, Worldscope, SDC, Newsedge, Earnings data, Extel, Investex and more.
Wharton Research Data Service
WRDS provides instant access to important databases in the fields of finance, accounting, banking, economics, management, marketing and public policy. The University takes Compustat and CRSP data as well as Eventus event study software.
