Theoretical framework 1

Two complementary theoretical traditions appearrelevant for examining sociodemographic determinants of mate selectionpreferences. Exchange theory stress the resources that individuals are able totrade in order to maximize their rewards. In perhaps the most popular interpretationof exchange theory as applied to mate selection, men are seen as exchangingtheir socioeconomic resources for women’s sexual and domestic services. Hencewomen are thought to be more concerned with the socioeconomic status of potentialspouses, and men are concerned with physical attractiveness. However, withinthe sexes, it seems likely that individuals with greater socioeconomicresources are less willingly to marry individuals with comparatively undesirableor non-normative characteristics, since their resources provide them withgreater bargaining power and enhance their own attractiveness in possible exchanges.Conversely, individuals who bring to the marriage market less desired ornon-normative traits are likely to expand their field of eligible and toexpress a greater willingness to marry persons with dissimilar characteristics.

这次学习如何由理论过渡到推论以及假设。首先提出twocomplementary theoretical traditions 可以使用tradition,framework,不要总使用同样的单词。…appearrelevant for examining ….. 这可以是提出理论的一个句型，哪些理论看起来与检验…有关。紧接着提出exchangetheory stress the resources that ….are able to trade in order to ….这句话要把该理论的核心点点明。Inperhaps the most popular interpretation of exchange theory as applied to mate selection,这句话的主体是in the interpretationof exchange theory ….加了很多修饰词，这也是我们可以借鉴的，mostpopular interpretation of ….theory as applied to …., 此后的一句话也是形容该theory的重点, men are seen asexchanging their socioeconomic resources for women’s sexual and domestic services.Hence, women are thought to be more concerned with …, and men are concernedwith …. 这就算一个推论。

However，这是从另外一个侧面进行推论，推论使用的词汇，例如，itseems likely that ……are less willingly to marry individuals with comparatively undesirable and non-normative characteristics, since ….providegreater bargaining power and enhance their ….注意一些小词的使用。

Conversely, 是一种对比的带有结果发现的语气，individualswho …less desired or non-normative traits are likely to expand their field ofeligible and to express a ….dissimilar characteristics . 这也是一种预测，虽然没有直接的证据，但是从理论往下推是可以推得动的。
