Best Buy Co.?fell after delivering sluggish sales and trimming its outlook for the year, a rough start for the gadget retailer’s new chief that doesn’t bode well for the holidays.

Citing consumer “uncertainty” in the back half of the year along with the impact of the Chinese?trade war, the retailer cut its 2019 sales forecast. Comparable-store sales growth in the U.S., a key metric for the retailer, also missed analysts’ projections in the second quarter, due to weakening demand for video games and mobile phones. Best Buy fell as much as 9.6%, the lowest intraday price since June 6.

Best Buy “sells many expensive, discretionary items that shoppers can forgo if money is tight or if they lack confidence in their financial futures,”?Neil Saunders, an analyst at GlobalData Retail, said in a note. “There is a very uneven performance across categories.”
