About the Survey
The goal of our Property & Casualty Agent and Broker Survey is to provide a
snapshot of the current fundamental trends affecting the insurance industry through
the eyes of independent agents and brokers, the core distribution for most industry
participants. We strive to provide a view of front-line industry fundamentals,
including pricing, terms and conditions, and competitive dynamics. To ensure the
survey is not simply backwards-looking, it also incorporates the expectations of the
participants. In addition, the survey provides insights into how insurance trends are
affecting the business prospects of the agents and brokers themselves.
Consequently, as we discuss below, we have organized the survey into two distinct
“Underwriting” and “Distribution” sections. We recognize that, like all surveys, there
are limitations as to the applicability or relevance of any individual question or data
point to specific participants. As a result, users are encouraged to make use of the
entire survey to come to their own conclusions.
Navigating the Results
Our report presents the results of our P&C Agent & Broker Surveys by question in
two distinct sections: underwriting and distribution. Within each section, we have
further segmented the questions by topic. Users have two options to navigate the
report: (1) use the table of contents below to go directly to the topics of greatest
interest or (2) read from start to finish, which is organized in the same order our
respondents answered. For each question, an overview chart is provided with
summary comments, followed by further breakdowns by product and market, where
applicable. As a result, users can also choose to go through the report at a high level
or focus on specific products or market segments. We note that the distribution
section also includes topics that provide insights into the makeup of the survey
respondents.
